We are a small team based in Pittsburgh working with private equity firms, their portfolio companies, mid-market operators, and other consulting firms. Evidence over opinion, judgment that stays human, and speed as a discipline are how we work.

About the role

Forward Deployed Engineers are how Lunon’s work lands inside a client. You embed with a client team, learn how the business actually runs, and build the AI systems that change it: data pipelines, agents, internal tools, and the operating rhythm around them.

Current and upcoming deployments include a regional steel manufacturer, an oil and gas operator, consulting firms extending their own teams, and private equity firms in New York. You will be on a client site at least three days a week.

Responsibilities

Embed with client operators and leadership to find where AI changes an outcome, not just a workflow
Design and ship production systems on client data: integrations, agents, evaluation, and monitoring
Turn messy operational data into something a model can trust, and prove that it can
Own deployments end to end, from the first scoping conversation to adoption on the floor
Bring what worked back to Lunon so the next engagement starts further ahead
Present progress and tradeoffs plainly to executives, engineers, and frontline teams

You may be a fit if

You have 2+ years building software professionally and have shipped code others depend on
You are fluent in Python or TypeScript and comfortable with SQL, APIs, and cloud infrastructure
You have built with large language models beyond a demo and know where they fail
You are energized by ambiguous problems in unglamorous industries
You communicate clearly with non-technical people and like being on site

Strong candidates may also

Have worked in consulting, solutions engineering, or another customer-facing technical role
Have exposure to manufacturing, energy, financial services, or private equity
Have set up evaluation and data-quality checks for AI systems
Have led a deployment or migration for a team that had never run one

Location

This role is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is in person. Expect to be at client sites at least three days a week, including travel to clients outside Pittsburgh such as New York.
